OrionDark introduced this to me, and I thought it might be a good chance to get to know some of the bloggers around Chattanooga.
Here is how the blogging “Interview Game” is played:
Leave me a comment saying “interview me.” The first five commenters will be the participants.
I will respond by asking you three to five questions.
You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions.
You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them three to five questions. (Write your own questions or borrow some.)
I got linked to this chain by way of OrionDark, who has asked me five questions. Below are the questions and my answers:
1) If you could change the Constitution of the United States, how would you change it and what would you perceive to be the repercussions?
Yikes! That's a scary thought! I don't have the wisdom or experience to have a very valid opinion here, but I'll share it anyways. I would like to see the idea of "the separation of church and state" more clearly defined. I would have liked the writers of the Constitution to give us a better idea of what their intent was. It would be nice to have some examples of what it is and what it is not.
Along those same lines, I'd like to have the idea of "freedom of speech" more clearly defined. Modern America interprets these ideas in many different ways. I think that many of these interpretations are incorrect. Incorrect interpretation of an idea almost always leads to incorrect application of that idea. I'd hope if these ideas were more clearly defined we'd see less abuse and manipulation of our legal system through misapplication of this freedom.
2) What is you favorite book of the Bible and why?
I go through different "favorite" books at different times in my life. At times my favorite has been Isaiah, Ecclesiastes, Romans, the Gospels, Genesis, and Philippians. Right now I'm pretty partial to the Psalms. I think there is so much to be learned by reading how David communicates with God. He expresses frustration, anger, bitterness, love, joy, hope... In all of these things he is honest and open with God. He talks to God like he knows God. It's hard to see God as being distant when I'm reading the Psalms.
3) What criteria do you use to judge a game, and what is your favorite game (video or non-video)?
In general, a game has to have unambiguous rules that aren't easily bent or broken. It has to have a well-defined goal and the path to getting to that goal should always be clear (even if it is just on an abstract level). It should not be easily beatable. It should have a consistent theme. It should reward those with natural skill while allowing those without natural skill to learn the skills necessary to at least play the game.
It's going to be hard to choose a favorite game. Hmmm...my favorite video game just may be Super Bomberman on the Super Nintendo. My favorite card game would be Magic: The Gathering (the game changes often, so I have to qualify by saying that I really enjoyed it around 1999). My favorite board game would be Risk (even though I've only played it once).
4) What would you say is a good balance between the popular methodologies utilized by Christians in interacting with the world? [Love versus Divine truth] Reference."
I think that in interacting with the world Christians always need to be humble, loving, and truthful. I think that we have the truth part down (at least when it comes to the gospel of Christ), and we often can get the love part right, but I think that we often miss humility.
To be humble towards non-Christians we need to be humble first towards God. We should seek his mind on how to love those around us. This is where I think that many Christians are messing up in interacting with the world. They assume that what they are doing is good, and so they just go out and do it. I think this is where you get guys that like to scream at people on street corners that they're going to hell and pass out tracts instead of tips at restaurants.
5) What do you expect to be doing in five years?
I hope to be out of law school and working in the human rights arena in some way, and I'd like to have a kid or two by then (hopefully girls).
