For those of you who read this thing to keep up with my life...
I went up to Nashville this weekend for the Vandy law meet and greet day for incoming students. It was very exciting to actually be on campus and meet people that I'll be getting to know very well over the next 3 years. It made this whole law school thing a little more real to me.
Many of the incoming students that I met were fairly self-promoting. I don't know if it was just because they were nervous or what but I kept hearing comments about LSAT scores and getting into better schools and stuff like that. Hearing stuff like that made it difficult to keep the right mindset (God has made me who I am and if there's anything good in me at all it is only by grace, so I have no room to boast) rather than joining the pissing contest that some of these students were starting.
It was interesting to contrast the incoming students to the current students. They all seemed to be fairly comfortable with who they were and didn't make many comments to try and make sure others knew they were smart. I'm hoping that my class will mature to that point once we actually start school.
In other news, Les and I spent much of Saturday looking at houses and condos. We found a place in the Donelson area (about 10 miles from downtown) that we're interested in. Seeing where we might live helped Les to become much more comfortable with the idea of moving to Nashville, so I was glad we were able to go ahead and start looking.

Posted by: dd at March 23, 2005 02:19 PMVandy huh, congratulations. I'm sorry to say but the legal profession has a distinct problem when it comes to numbers. For the most part the only thing we can calculate is our GPA, and the only numbers we can remember are our LSAT, GPA, and class rank. You know how it is when people don't know much about a certain subject they tend to tell you everything they know about it to cover up some inferiority complex or something...well, that's sort what a lot of us in the legal profession (or heading there) tend to do. Things will cool down once you get your first semester grades and all those formerly "A" students get Bs and Cs. If your lucky, those few on the top of the class rank will be kind and not rub it in your face, and if you're in the top...just remember that the people you go to school with are the ones you'll be working with the rest of your career, and you don't want to burn any bridges. Also, all the 1Ls freak out when that first set of exams role around, but most everyone has calmed down by the beginning of your 2nd year. And here's a little saying for you, perhaps you've heard it, "A students become the Judges, B students become the professors, and the C students become the millionaires" - it's funny that it is actually kind of true. Good luck in school.
